Orbit – a Ring Injection Code with Space Charge

چکیده
ORBIT, Objective Ring Beam Injection and Tracking, is a new C++ code developed for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) project to build the most intense pulsed neutron source. The code includes H foil injection modelling features needed to simulate realistic injection scenarios. Because the SNS project will produce intense pulses, 1-2x10, of low energy protons, 1 GeV, and is concerned with keeping uncontrolled beam losses to less than 1 part in 10, space charge models are provided to calculate beam halo, allowing minimisation of losses. The general code features are described, and some example calculations are shown. A more detailed description of using the code is given in a ORBIT User Manual [1].

Sns Injection Simulations with Space Charge
The SNS accumulator ring will have a high intensity (~ 10) low energy (1 GeV) beam and required uncontrolled particle loss rates of ~ one part in 10. For these beam parameters, space charge effects could drive beam halo growth, which would lead to violation of the stringent loss criterion. In this paper we investigate the transverse halo growth due to space charge using a newly developed simula...

We are developing a computer code, ORBIT, specifically for beam dynamics calculations in highintensity rings. Our approach allows detailed simulation of realistic accelerator problems. ORBIT is a particle-incell tracking code that transports bunches of interacting particles through a series of nodes representing elements, effects, or diagnostics that occur in the accelerator lattice. At present...

متن کاملTransverse Impedance Implementation in ORBIT
The transverse stability and broadening of the beam turn out to be the most problematic issues in the Spallation Neutron Source ring operation. The particle simulation code ORBIT, initially written for space charge and halo growth studies, now is able to cover a broad spectrum of the accumulator ring problems. Here we present an implementation of a collective force simulation due to impedance e...
